Navratri 2024 Dates, Importance and Rituals
Navratri is almost here! It's a special time when we worship nine different forms of Maa Durga over nine days. This Chaitra Navratri happens every year on the first day of the Luni-Solar calendar, usually in March or April. This year, it starts on April 9th, 2024, and ends on April 17th, 2024.
In the Hindu calendar, we celebrate four Navratris every year. Two of them are secret Navratris, and the other two are Shardiya and Chaitra Navratri.
During Navratri, we honor the nine incarnations of Maa Durga, each on a specific day. It's all about celebrating the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishashur. Navratri is celebrated with lots of enthusiasm across India. Different regions have different names for it, like Durga Puja in Bengal and Dasara in Karnataka. While the names and celebrations might vary, the purpose remains the same: rejoicing in the victory of Maa Adhya Shakti over the demon Mahishasur, who had been granted immortality by Lord Brahma.
