Why Goddess Durga came into being?
Maa Durga is a mighty Hindu Goddess, formed by Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh (Shiva) to defeat the evil Demon Mahishasur. She’s also known as Adi Shakti or Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva. During Navratris, she’s one of the nine goddesses worshipped. Riding on a fierce lion or tiger, Durga holds ten weapons in her hands, given by the three Devas, including a conch shell, discus, mace, spear, bow with arrows, and an axe. These weapons made her powerful to vanquish Mahishasur. But why did Goddess Durga come into existence?
Goddess Durga came into existence to defeat the demon Mahishasur, who was wreaking havoc on the world. The gods were unable to defeat him because of his extraordinary powers. So, they combined their energies to create Goddess Durga, a fierce warrior with immense strength and courage. She was bestowed with divine weapons by the gods to empower her in battle. Durga fought a fierce battle with Mahishasur for nine days and nights during which she ultimately vanquished him, restoring peace and harmony to the universe. Her victory symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and serves as a reminder that righteousness will always prevail.
Additionally, Durga’s presence embodies the divine feminine energy, representing strength, compassion, and protection. Thus, Goddess Durga’s existence is tied to her role as a protector and defender of dharma (righteousness), ensuring the well-being of all beings in the cosmos.
